The Electricity Regulatory Authority has made comments on Landsnet's tariff changes for transmission losses that were intended to take effect on the 1st of August.

A draft of guidelines regarding transmission losses has been published simultaneously for review. With the introduction of electricity trading platforms, transparency, equality, and competition in the wholesale market have increased, providing opportunities for improvements in the purchase arrangements and charges for transmission losses. 

The guidelines propose transparent methodologies so that the expected charges for transmission losses can be calculated clearly in advance, significantly increasing predictability and reliability. Additionally, incentives are built in for the transmission company to minimise losses and schedule repairs when electricity purchases are more economical. Comments about the guidelines are requested before September 1st 2024.

Comments and Guidelines on Charges for Transmission Losses

Changes have been made to Island.is login service to access the National Energy Authority's service portal. The changes will mean that the IceKey will no longer be available as a login method. After this change, the IceKey will not work and users will therefore need to use a phone, an in-app ID or a card ID.

Orkustofnun has calculated guarantees of origin of electricity for Iceland for the year 2023, to fullfill the regulation no. 757/2012.

Origin of electricity

The National Energy Authority has advertised Landsvirkjun's applications for power plant licenses for the 95 MW Hvammsvirkjun station in Þjórsá and for the expansion of the Sigöldu station in Ásahreppur and Rangárþing Ytra.


Advertisements for the applications were published in Lögbirtingablaðið on May 17, 2024, where interested parties are given the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the applications and provide comments within four weeks from the publication of the advertisements, or until June 14, 2024.
