The Energy Transition Year 2023

Sigurður Ingi Friðleifsson, division head at the National Energy Authority, reviews the year 2023 from the point of view of energy transition.

The year 2023 was quite successful in terms of energy transition in road transport. Road transport is the single largest emitter of greenhouse gases under Icelandic responsibility, and it is therefore extremely important that the energy transition takes place quickly and safely in that field. It should be kept in mind that although the energy conversion of automobiles is discussed here, the most efficient energy conversion is always found in changing travel habits, i.e. to use cars less, by walking, cycling, public transport and homework.
