Legal framework and regulations
With the implementation of the electricity laws around the mid-year 2003, NRA was entrusted with extensive supervisory roles in electricity matters, particularly overseeing the licensing components, i.e., the transmission and distribution of electricity.
Roles of the National Energy Regulatory
The supervisory roles of the National Energy Regulatory, according to electricity laws, can be divided into the following components:
General oversight of the implementation of electricity laws.
Oversight of the separation of operational segments in the accounting of transmission companies and distribution utilities.
Establishment of revenue thresholds.
Oversight of tariffs for the transmission and distribution of electricity.
Oversight of electricity supply guarantees.
Handling complaints from users who believe that electricity companies have violated their obligations.
When a dispute arises due to the implementation of the Electricity Act
Anyone who believes that an electricity company is acting unlawfully with its decisions, actions, or omissions can bring the matter to the attention of the Energy Regulatory Authority. Following proper legal preparation and investigation of the case, the Energy Regulatory Authority will make a government decision on whether the company's activities, in question, comply with the law. If the company's actions are not in accordance with the provisions of electricity laws, the Energy Regulatory Authority may demand that corrective measures be taken, and penalties may be imposed.
Government decisions made by the Energy Regulatory Authority in electricity matters can be appealed to the Electricity Disputes Tribunal.
It is intended to publish complaints and other dispute cases, decisions of the Energy Regulatory Authority, and the verdicts of the Electricity Disputes Tribunal on this website in the future.
